Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), which is a high pressure of ethylene and a small amount of high-grade Î±-olefins (such as butene-1, hexene-1, octene-1, tetramethylpentene-1, etc.) under the action of a catalyst. Or a low pressure polymerized copolymer having a density between 0.915 and 0.940 g/cc. The new generation of LLDPE expands its density to plastomers (0.890 to 0.915 g/cc) and elastomers (<0.890 g/cc). However, the American Plastics Industry Association (SPI) and the American Plastics Industry Council (APC) only extend the scope of LLDPE to plastomers, excluding elastomers. In the 1980s, Union Carbide and Dow Chemical referred to their early sales of plastomers and elastomers as very low density polyethylene (VLDPE) and ultra low density polyethylene (ULDPE) resins.
The molecular structure of conventional LLDPE is characterized by its linear backbone with little or no long chain branching but some short chain branches. No long chain branching results in higher crystallinity of the polymer.
